Reefer Madness is a satirical musical, based on the film of the same name, that takes you on a journey through the marijuana hysteria of the 1930s. The plot is ridiculous, the characters are absurd, and the songs are hilarious. With dynamic lighting, a small stage, and a massive rambunctious cast, Little Lake Theatre Company's take on this musical leans in on the madness of it all. The audience was electric and full of constant laughter, so if you're looking for a good time then this is the place to be!

Andy Coleman's Lecturer guides the audience through the show as we follow the damage marijuana does to Jimmy (Adrien-Sophia Curry) and his relationship with his girl Mary Lane (Samantha Hawk). Coleman's presence is magnetic, and he wears the many hats (and horns) of the Lecturer with comedic brilliance.
Adrien-Sophia Curry's Jimmy stole the show for me. Watching them transform throughout the show from nerdy kid to crazed pothead through subtle changes such as tousled hair, an untucked shirt, and wide-eyes was unbelievably entertaining. Curry's ability to move through the wavering states of Jimmy is an impressive feat to witness.
Nicole White's lighting design really stood out to me. The lights matched the over-dramatic feel of the show perfectly with stark transitions, vibrant colors, and more green light than I'll probably ever see again on a stage. White's design felt like the piece that brought everything together, and it truly captured all of the wacky vibes of the musical.
I also have to give a quick shout-out to whoever made the cookie I purchased at the concessions stand. Not only did it crack me up looking at it, but it tasted amazing.

Little Lake's closing weekend of their production of Reefer Madness runs October 16th-19th. Director Patrick Cannon's vision was vivid and well-executed by the production team and cast, so don't be a square; grab some tickets!
